Star Trek: TNG 1.26 - The Neutral Zone

Review 110 - Episode 106 (May 16th 1988)

The One with the Romulans

So, final episode of Season 1 on TNG. It improved greatly from those dodgy early episodes, but it's still very rough in places. Acting, nostalgia and good will saw me through this season. This isn't a bad episode, if slightly underpar as a finale. The Romulans are back. But...they don't do anything. Then leave.

There's no getting away that nothing happens here and the Romulans are never a big part of Trek continuity, despite being a big name. The nod's to The Borg are nice touches but there's been so much foreshadowing I'm sure no one expected a follow up.

The B plot of 3 revived cryogenic patients seems forced upon the story but actually kind of melds as there confusion mirrors Picards. The Texan is especially funny and I liked his Texan Twang when he entered the room.

It's watchable, but average and surely Conspiracy would have made a better finale? Whatever, onwards Sesaon 2!

3/5
